Obsidian Conflict in the public eye!

Post by fug4life »

From time to time I google Obsidian Conflict. I love to stumble across others who are pimping OC across the net.

This topic is for any coverage you may chance across, post anything you think is worth reading or looking at.

I used to enjoy reading all the gameplay and story descriptions and some of the old intended features that haven't yet made it.

So tonight, Fileplanet finally saw sense. I thought the write up did the mod justice.

They're using 2 oc_garden screenshots.

I can't help but feel embarrassed that they're using my horrid map to represent OC.

You should feel flattered!

The map isn't that bad, there are some good ideas going on in that map, its ok to love your first map as well as despise.

Figured some butthurt troll would bring up anime in the comments.

Maybe we should clean up the media section on moddb a bit.

Yeah its probably a good idea to remove any screen shots with anime or non-hl2 related playermodels.

I would suggest you get together on a nice map and take one screenshot of about 6-8 of you all playing as other hl2 characters.

So,

Freeman,
Alyx,
Combine,
Metro,
Eli,
w/e.

And I'd say use that to promote custom playermodels on all sites.

I know its a bit disheartening, but just for publicity sakes. Whether you love or hate anime, it dosen't matter but its obvious that sadly its become a bit of a cloud overhanging the mod :(

Or you could start up a 32 man server organise it as an event and have a mix of all models anime included. though I think probably the default stuff, though not as exciting, gets the message across.

Whether or not it stops the idiots from posting I cant promise it will. But hopefully they'll die a death eventually!

Yeah that wiki page is quite interesting its description of the mod is quite unusual but amusing.

I guess so though a google translation would be helpful.

No real rules for this topic just post stuff you think is interesting.

Edit: Though some sites that literrally just give a download link, Id say arn't very interesting and some stuff is just old.

That's an inaccurate assumption, I hate the anime models, but I don't hate anime. Though, I know you can just not download them, so I don't talk about it much.

I do recommend we try to take pictures with stock content, such as, no weapon replacements or 3rd-party-playermodels. Would also help avoid future confusion, and just thought of it, some people might think we steal skins if pictures are posted by someone with replacements from FSPB or something.

lol at the nuclearflash thing about loading hell, i havent really experienced that much and
"the others will arrive at the spot only to find that the players already on the map have reached the END."
Usually at that point, players should go find another server with more cooperative players..instead of playing with rushers.

Not a lot of servers out there that have people playing in them a lot. And besides, that's easy to say and do at the moment. But when this mod gets to be really popular, it will be REALLY hard to find a group of people who actually cooperate. It's simple: people, and especially pubbers, are assholes and usually only play for their own sake. The, "Why should MY fun be ruined just because someone has a slow computer?" argument will probably be a popular one. Probably countered by the, "It's a CO-OP mod!" argument. Both sides will be angry, and nothing will get accomplished except a bad rep on the OC community.

The more people there are, the more unstable cooperation gets. Just one person can simply run everyone over with a jeep, or someone might accidently press E and grabbing a box, leading to a collapse in the tower that took 5 minutes to build. And don't even get me started on new players. I guess that's why 8 people servers should be the max. But then again, the more regular pubbers come to check out OC, the more likelier that one of those 8 people might be a griefer.

On the bright side, when it is more popular there probably will be more clans, so I guess in a way it will also be easier to find a good team of CO-OP players to play with, if the servers aren't full that is. But that's just my guess on the outcome.

Back on semi-off-topic-topic: I have only experienced Loading Hell on big maps like Paysan and Broken Escape.
Oh, don't be such a baby. Episode 3 will come out.

*Turns to Archimedes*

No it won't.

The long level load times are a result of dynamic mounting, true its amplified with larger maps containing more content.

End of the day in most cases, its quicker than having to static mount (restart the mod) so I live with it, and once the server is on the right mount, its relatively quick, i.e when you play through a campaign.
