That's the bolt, it's pulled back to chamber the first round.
When firing the weapon the bolt gets moved 'automatically' by the expanding gas.

Since it's actually pretty close to the palm of the hand, it doesn't look to strange to me.
I'm sure Keychain will appreciate the feedback though.

Indeed.

These specific animations won't become official unfortunately due to several reasons. I'm doing all of this merely to practice my animation in general and perhaps to give Link ideas when he revamps the animations.
