[solved] homebrew OC-Server not shown in the Server Browser

Post by rad_ »

Hi @all,

Since one year of trys with several reinstalls/a system and one router change I´m not able to get my homebrew server shown up in the Server Browser again.
Its only viewable in my "LAN"-server list. A friend of mine with own steam client cant see him too.

thats what I did:

- I install the server with the manual in the wiki (hldsupdatetool/ campain extractor) and this guide http://planethalflife.gamespy.com/View. ... d=4&game=3
- I install the 1.35 server hotfix
- this ports are open in my router (Linksys WRT54GL):
UDP 1200 (Friends Network)
UDP 27000 to 27015 (Gameport)
UDP 27020
TCP 27030 to 27039
TCP 27015 (SRCDS Rcon port)
- sv_lan 0
- I test it with canyouseeme.org, ports are open
- the server console said: connection to steam server sucessfull and Adding Masterserver (2 entrys)
- attached the server.cfg that works for more than 2 years:

I wrote this guide, but since the SteamPipe update it will probably be obsolete (at least with mounting the content): http://wiki.obsidianconflict.net/?title ... er_Setup_2

I´m unable to see something wrong with it. Are you able to connect to the server in game? Your friend, even if he isn´t able to see it, can connect to it if you give to him the full ip?

yes he can connect (in general) when i gave him my wan ip (he got a steam invalid user_id ticked and was kicked but afaik thats a separate problem)
ingame I´m able to connect to the server, too.

I gave it so many trys in the past to fix it, but I´ve no ideas why it dont work...
As I remember it dont work longer from now on the same without making any changes made by me.

Valve broke something on their backend again, but we have an alternate server browser available here.
Apparently, Valve can't make games beyond the number 2.
I think the only time we'll get a Source SDK code update is when it starts having purchasable hats integrated, i.e. hatconomy.

Please do not make assumptions you are not knowledgeable enough to make - that just backfires on yourself.
Tick me off, and I'll be sure to give you the golden treatment. Haven't you heard? Silence is golden.

Thanks for that!
But my server is not listed in the alternate server Browser too :cry: The entrys I see there correspond to my ingame Server Browser.
(that in the steam client is empty)

edit:
- I upgrade my router with another firmware from dd-wrt after I read this: http://forums.srcds.com/viewtopic/9589
- DMZ the server
- I check all my settings twice (server.cfg, steam.inf, router settings)
- gave my ISP a call regarding the ports

but nothing helps.
Next step I carry my server to a friend and will give it a try there

....to be continued.

Mmh, what I dont understand is, in case of that is something broken at the backend with Valve, why are other servers with OC-Mod are viewable in the ingame server browser and the alternative web based server browser?

The web-based server browser uses a different method - you'll need to install a plugin to get it to appear on the list. As for why servers only show on the in-game server browser, your guess is as good as mine. Try getting someone you know who plays the mod to see if they can find your server with the in-game browser - sometimes you can't see your own server though others can, I've had that happen to me many times. Also, ensure that sv_visible is set to 1.

I got the thing another try:

http://www.moddb.com/mods/no-more-room- ... lease-read

I add this lines to my server.cfg and now the server is shown in the ingame serverbrowser again!

//***
// Master Server Settings
//***
sv_master_legacy_mode 0 // Disable lagacy mode, since steam master servers won't support it anymore.
heartbeat // Send heartbeat that this server is ready. Should be the last line of the config.
//***

I wonder why no one suggested that to him as it's in the svn since a while now...
