You can't run the game directly from hammer, you have to compile the map and then start the game and load the map from the console.

I must've missed something in the tutorials I read/watched because when I started my map it was completely dark.

Yes, I'd test to see if I just stuck to far into the prop but I'm too lazy atm.

You can't pose them a la GMOD, however you can put them at a funny angle in hammer so when they spawn (and gravity takes over) they look like they really died.

Practice makes perfect for this.
