Stuff on mapping you won't want to miss!

Post by [JSC][GU]PREDATOR »

Maybe you should make this a sticky....

Unmissable tools for map making!

These 3 tools are all I use/need.

CONTENT:

1. VTF-Explorer v1.12

Tool to browse and extract files like textures, skins and models from out the .gcf files.

2. VTF-Tool v0.5beta

Tool to convert images/textures from TGA to VTF format and from VTF to TGA tool.

3. WinBSP-Zip v0.021a

Tool to add all custom files like textures, models, skins and script files etc. to your complete compiled BSP file.

[Download Me!]

Most of them are beta's.
But they work.
Some have bugs, but not that serious.
Like for instance: with the WinBSP-Zip tool you might see double added files.
of course, this is impossible. so its just an illusion. ignore it.
no problems futher so far.
but if someone does have trouble with one of these tools, let me know.
I'll be ready to help you out.

Pakrat is far better for BSP zipping... I think, my friend uses it and says it's nicer.

I've never used bspziping before and wanted to ask: When I decompile my map, will the bspzipped files still be in the bsp? Bspzipped files have the root directory .../obsidian/maps/. Will a model located in maps/models/amodel.mdl (which means it's bspzipped) be found if it's set to the searchpath ...obsidian/models/amodel.mdl in hammer?
